 When
Keeneyes was formed 20 years ago, its main business was importing chemicals from Japan
into Taiwan. But with the changing business environment and the appreciation of both the
new Taiwan Dollar and the Japanese Yen, Keeneyes shifted its focus from Japanese-produced
chemicals to chemicals made in Europe and the United States. -
- Then, starting in 1992,
Keeneyes' business scope was again expanded to include importing and exporting materials
to and from Mainland China. By extending its trading arm to China, Loyal has set a
foundation for close integration of its production and trading divisions. It is a key goal
of Loyal's chairman Y.C. Liao to achieve horizontal integration of these business, as he
foresees a difficult road ahead for trading companies that are not associated with
manufacturing or other businesses.

Keeneyes form a symbiotic relationship, combining manufacturing and worldwide
distribution. However, Keeneyes also operates as its own company, giving it the
flexibility to adapt quickly to changes in the shipping and import/export business.
Keeneyes currently serves leading companies from around the globe, such as Taiwan's Grand
Pacific Petrochemical Corporation Britain's ICI and Japan's Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co.,
Inc., handling primarily the import and export of chemicals and related products. While
manufacturing has assumed a bigger and bigger role for the Loyal Group, the company's
foundation in trading continues to be important to the firm's growth, with sales
accounting for some US$25 million in revenues each year.
